Human Rights Commission Minutes April 14, 1992 Communications (continued) The Cable Commission has invited the Human ~ights commission to attend a meeting with them to d1SCUSS the matter. Kushner will contact the Cable commission to obtain some dates that Norrgard, Deutsch and Bancroft could attend a meeting. V. Grievance Uodate No response has been received to the letter" sent to commissioner Beaulieu. Norrgard requested that Deutsch write a follow-up letter to Beaulieu asking for a response if none has been received before the next meeting. IV. Other Business Essav Contest: Norrgard reported that the Chair of the Bicentennial Commission complained in a recent editorial that the paper had not acknowledged their co-sponsoring of the Essay Contest. He suggested that Deutsch, as Chair, write a short note of apology. Kushner will obtain the address. Deutsch also suggested that the theme for the next contest might be tied to the bias-related crime and the recent White supremacy newspaper and cable programming Human Riahts Excellence Award: The Commission decided to table discussion of the Award until stan Borden could be -present. Workshops/Seminars: Norrgard reported on two items: Family Emergency Shelters, April 27th, 12 -4:30 at the City Hall Annex in st. Paul: Family Violence Seminar on May 21, 1992 at Earl Brown. Contact him for further information. Calendar: Deutsch prepared a tentative calendar for the Commission's upcoming year (attached) and suggested that the commission should take this time to decide what they would like to do for the coming year, including re-evaluating existing events. Election: Deutsch suggested that the election of the Chair be tabled until the next meeting when more members might be present and, hopefully, the new Commission members as well. V.
