<br />Human Rights Connnission Minutes <br />Tuesday, June 9, 1992 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Deutsch at 7:00 P.M. <br /> <br />n. Roll Call <br />Members Present: Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Linda Larmore, Thelma McKenzie, Kim <br />Waite, Jackie Lindberg, Robert Bancroft, Michael Trainor, David Norrgard, and Mary <br />Helen Deutsch. <br />Excused Absences: Stan Borden. <br />Others Present: Sonja Peterson, Shoreview resident and Adelberto Batica, MN <br />Department of Human Rights. <br /> <br />m. Cable TV Preview <br />The Commissioners viewed some racist programming which had been submitted to the <br />North Suburban Cable Company. The idea of developing some programs on Human <br />Rights topics was discussed. <br />Action: Bob Bancroft, Kim Waite, and Linda Larmore agreed to work on the project. <br />Mary Helen Deutsch will organize a planning meeting and will invite the other Human <br />Rights Commissions in the area, a representative from North Suburban Cable, Sonja <br />Peterson, and Adelberto Batica. <br /> <br />IV. MN Deoartment of Human Ril!hts <br />Adelberto Batica, Enforcement Officer, with the State Department of Human Rights met <br />with the Commission and made the following points: <br />- The State intends to provide technical assistance and training to Commissions. <br />- There have been cuts in the department which includes Mr. Batica. He <br />recommends that we keep in touch with Mary Hedges until a new liaison is <br />assigned. <br />- It is recommended that the Roseville Commission keep in touch with the State <br />by sending them the meeting minutes, annual event calendar, and inviting them <br />to things like the multicultural event. <br />Action: Mr. Batica agreed to help us continue our assessment of the Grievance situation <br />by providing data on the number of Roseville charges filed with the State and what types <br />of charges they have been. <br /> <br />V. Grievance Uodate <br />Deutsch reported that we have received a complaint from an individual who applied for <br />a job in Roseville but was not hired. However, the individual had filed a charge with <br />the State before he contacted the Commission and therefore, Roseville does not have <br />jurisdiction. <br /> <br />VI. Proiects <br />A. Multicultural Event: <br />There is no report this month. This will be one of the primary agenda items for July. <br />
