<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1992 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Deutsch <br />at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />others Present: <br />Excused Absences: <br />Unexcused Absences: <br /> <br />Thelma McKenzie, Mary Jean Turinia <br />Anderson, Linda Larmore, Michael <br />Trainor, Stan Borden, Dave Norrgard, <br />Kim waite, Jackie Lindberg, Mary <br />Helen Deutsch <br />Laura Kushner, Staff Liaison <br />Bob Bancroft <br />None <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />Bias/Hate Crimes in Roseville. chairperson Deutsch reported <br />that Chief Zelinsky of the Roseville Police Dept. will <br />discuss bias/hate crimes in Roseville at the October mtg. <br /> <br />IV. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes Larmore motioned, Trainor seconded the <br />approval of the July 14, 1992 Minutes. All ayes. <br /> <br />v. <br /> <br />Committee Reports. <br /> <br />A. Multicultural Event. <br />McKenzie reported on the Committee's work to date. (A <br />tentati ve program is attached to the Minutes.) The <br />program will start at 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, <br />October 3, depending on whether the vietnamese Dragon <br />Dancers are available. Commissioners should plan to be <br />present by at least 12:30 p.m. The event will be held <br />in the new Dayton's wing of Rosedale, first floor. <br /> <br />B. Essav Competition <br />Lindberg reported that all the schools have now received <br />their informational materials for the essay contest. <br />Essays are due back by November 6th. The Committee will <br />select the top 25-30 best essays and set aside a meeting <br />for the Commission to come read the essays and make <br />selections on winners. The Commission would like to <br />consider purchasing plaques for the top three winners in <br />addition to the prizes. Kushner will check on where the <br />plaques were purchased last year and how much they cost. <br /> <br />C. Cable proiect <br />Deutsch reported that the bias-related crime seminar <br />tape has now been edited by the Cable Committee which <br />consists of Roseville, Shoreview and New Brighton at <br />present. The Committee will next meet to decide whether <br />to air the tape. Deutsch and waite are representing <br />Roseville and will keep the Commission posted on future <br />projects. <br />
