<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1992 <br /> <br />I. <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was <br />at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />called to order by Commission Chair Deutsch <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members present: <br /> <br />Dave Norrgard, stan Borden, Thelma <br />McKenzie, Linda Larmore, Bob Bancroft, <br />Kim Waite, and Mary Helen Deutsch. <br /> <br />Excused absences: <br /> <br />Michael Trainor, Mary Jean Turinia <br />Anderson, and Jackie Lindberg. <br /> <br />Unexcused absences: None. <br /> <br />Others present: steve North, Staff Liaison. <br /> <br />III. Essav Competition <br />Dave Norrgard reported that all public and private schools <br />had been contacted regarding the Essay competition. He <br />indicated most of the private schools decided not to <br />participate this year. <br /> <br />Essays have been submitted by one hundred and thirty-four <br />7th and 8th graders. The commission felt this was a very <br />positive response. Dave and Jackie will read all the <br />essays and select the top twenty to twenty-five. Those <br />essays will be available for reading by any Commission <br />Member at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, in the city <br />Hall. The essays will also be available during the day on <br />November 30 in the city Manager's office for commission <br />Members unable to attend in the evening. <br /> <br />Essay awards will be presented at the December 14 city <br />Council meeting. There will be a short reception following <br />the presentation. <br /> <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br />Larmore moved, McKenzie seconded, that the minutes of <br />October 13, 1992 be approved. Roll Call: All ayes. <br /> <br />V. Bias/Hate Crimes in Roseville <br />Morton Ryweck, representing the League of Human Rights <br />Commission, spoke to the Commission about responding to the <br />victims of hate crimes within the community. He suggested <br />the first step is to develop a plan. <br />
