<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION <br /> <br />Name of Commission <br />Human Rights Commission. <br /> <br />Purpose <br />The Commission is appointed by and serves in an advisory capacity <br />to the City Council in the area of human rights. <br /> <br />1. Provides a vehicle for citizen input concerning human rights <br />issues. <br /> <br />2. Monitors and keeps the Council advised concerning human <br />rights issues in the City. <br /> <br />3. Assists in carrying out the purpose of the Minnesota Human <br />Rights Act. <br /> <br />4. Provides public education activities concerning human rights <br />issues. <br /> <br />5. Promotes a positive human rights climate in the community. <br /> <br />6. Resolves discrimination complaints through an informal media- <br />tion process. <br /> <br />7. The Commission does not handle complaints internal to the <br />city organization. <br /> <br />size of commission <br />Ten members. <br /> <br />Meetinq Schedule <br />Second Tuesday of each month. <br /> <br />Role of Individual Members <br />1. Participate in commission meetings: <br />A. Provide ideas and suggestions concerning public education <br />and promotional activities regarding human rights issues. <br /> <br />B. Assist in planning and organizing events and activities. <br /> <br />2. Monitor the Human Rights climate in the community and <br />identify problems and issues. <br /> <br />3. Obtain training in the "No Fault" mediation process and serve <br />as a mediator to resolve discrimination complaints. <br /> <br />4. Participate in public education and promotional events regarding <br />human rights. <br /> <br />5. Ensure the confidentiality of both parties in the No Fault <br />grievance processes. <br />
