<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1992 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Deutsch <br />at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Excused Absences: <br /> <br />Thelma McKenzie, Stan Borden, Bob <br />Bancroft, David Norrgard, and Mary <br />Helen Deutsch <br />Brenda Thomas (Ci ty council) and <br />Laura Kushner, Staff Liaison <br />Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Jackie <br />Lindberg <br />Karen Bondy, vickie Wright <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />unexcused Absences: <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />ApDroval of Minutes <br />Deutsch moved, Borden seconded that <br />January 14, 1992 meeting be approved. <br /> <br />the minutes of the <br />All ayes. <br /> <br />IV. Business <br /> <br />A. Human Riahts Excellence Award <br />Borden reported that no nominations were received for <br />the Award, despite articles in various newspapers and <br />despite the extended deadline. The Commission, <br />therefore, decided not to give an award for 1992. Stan <br />Borden will collect the traveling plaque to be placed in <br />City Hall. <br /> <br />B. Committee ReDorts <br /> <br />1. Multicultural Events and Communications. <br />a) Fall Cultural Event. Mary Li tsheim reported <br />that Rosedale was not available for September 26 so <br />she tentatively reserved it for September 19, 1992. <br />The commission agreed to change the date to <br />september 19 (about 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.). The <br />following items were discussed: <br />Make sure sufficient space is available in <br />Rosedale; if not, may want to consider Har Mar <br />Asian display is available from Historical <br />society but must be reserved well in advance <br />September is American Indian Month; Sept. 21 is <br />American Indian Day <br />Consider aSking the Historical Society to <br />construct a timeline showing when the various <br />ethnic groups came to the area <br />Ask the library to construct a display using <br />census data to show change in ethnic <br />representation in the area over time <br />Keep security issues in mind for any displays <br />used <br />
