Human Rights Commission Minutes January 14, 1992 Ask the library to have a display of books available representing multicultural issues and groups If performers have music available on tape, may want to give them the opportunity to sell these or have available in music stores in the mall b) Employer Educational Event Deutsch reported that the Suburban Chamber of Commerce is interested in an ADA speaker/seminar and the Falcon Heights Commission is interested in collaborating. The Chamber will call when they are ready to schedule a date. councilperson Thomas suggested that an ADA informational article be put together for the city newsletter. McKenzie and Deutsch volunteered to send information to Kushner to put together an article. V. Grievance Update There were no grievances reported this month. Discussion centered around the Minnesota Department of Human Rights' apparent unwillingness to refer grievances. The League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions sent a letter to member commissions (copy attached) stating the apparent reasons for this unwillingness and asking that each commission write to the State Commissioner of Human Rights, David Beaulieu. The content of such a letter was discussed and it was decided to request that the City Manager and Commission Chair Deutsch prepare and sign such a letter with a copy to the League. At the same time, a city attorney's opinion will be requested regarding the extent to which the state has jurisdiction over the city's no-fault grievance procedure. IV. Other Business Deutsch reported that March is Women's History Month and that Anderson will put together a press release for the newspapers as part of her work on the Communications Committee. V.
