HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 1993 <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Waite at <br />7:35 p.m. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Members present: Linda Larmore, Mary Jean Turinia <br />Anderson, Stan Borden, Michael Trainor, <br />Maria Reed, Kim Waite <br />Excused absences: Dave Norrgard, Bob Bancroft, Jackie Kozak <br />Unexcused absences: Thelma McKenzie <br />Others present: Sarah Bellefuil, Administrative Intern <br />III. Welcome New Commission Member <br />Waite welcomed new Commission member Maria Reed to the <br />meeting. <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br />Trainor moved, Larmore seconded, that the minutes of March 9, <br />1993 be approved. Roll Call: All ayes. <br />V. Cable Update <br />The Cable Commission met on March 25, 1993. Waite did not <br />attend but received information about the meeting from former <br />Commission Chair Deutsch. Waite stated that the Cable <br />Commission plans to produce a 30 minute program titled "What's <br />in a Name". The program will explore various ethnic groups <br />through their names. The show will also touch on bias crime. <br />The next Cable Commission meeting will be April 22, at 5:30 <br />p.m. <br />VI. Update on Youth Commissioner <br />Waite summarized the discussion she and Deutsch had with the <br />Council members at the March 15, 1993 Regular City Council <br />Work Session. She stated that the Council suggested the <br />Commission go to the local high schools to recruit a student <br />for the Commission. <br />Bellefuil mentioned that the City Attorney had stated that an <br />additional voting member was acceptable but would require a <br />change in the City Ordinance. <br />
