Larmore suggested going to the local schools and inviting
students to come to a meeting. This way, the Commission could
find out if there is interest from students in the community.
Reed stated that because the Commission can't go to all the
schools they should publish in the local papers. Borden
mentioned that a student might not want to come during the
summer months and that it would be better to have the term run
during the school year. Borden also suggested a youth
consultant, rather than a youth commissioner, for one year to
see if the dynamics work. Reed suggested sending a survey to
local schools to see if they are in favor of a youth
consultant.
VII
Trainor moved, Larmore seconded, to rescind the motion of
February 9th, 1993 requesting the appointment of a youth
Commission member. Roll Call: All ayes.
Borden moved, Anderson seconded, to solicit a student, no less
that 16 years of age, to serve in an advisory capacity on the
Roseville Human Rights Commission. That the term be from
September 1 to June 1 of the following year. That the
Roseville Human Rights Commission establish the advisory
position of youth consultant and use the local paper to
advertise for the position. Roll Call: All ayes.
Mediation Training
Trainor moved, Anderson seconded, to rescind the motion of
March 9, asking staff do a rough draft RFP for the April
meeting. Roll Call: All ayes.
The motion was rescinded because it was determined that the
information packets handed out at the March 9th meeting
contained enough information on mediation training to make a
choice between training providers. Secondly, that it is the
understanding of the Commission that the League of Minnesota
Human Rights Commissions will be holding a training session as
early as June, 1993. Therefore, the Commission will wait
until they receive further information from the League before
they begin planning their own training session.
Anderson moved, Larmore seconded, that the Commission ask
McKenzie to follow up with the League to determine when
mediation training will be provided. Roll Call: All ayes.
VIII.Grievances
There were no grievances.
Waite suggested that Anderson and Borden prepare a 20 - 30
minute presentation on the No-Fault Grievance Packet, to be
held during the May meeting.
Trainor moved, Anderson seconded, to rescind the March 9, 1993
motion to write a letter to the MDHR. Roll Call: All ayes.
