The essays are 200 to 300 words long. The winners
receive cash awards of $50 for first place, $30 for second
place, and $20 for third place. Norrgard mentioned that this
year Reed volunteered to help read all the essays submitted to
the Commission. After Norrgard and Reed have done an initial
read through the Commission will get together and decide on
the 1993 Essay Contest winners.
Norrgard mentioned that during the last meeting Barb Mastel
offered to donate plaques to the winners of the Essay Contest.
Norrgard questioned if the Commission should accept the
plaques since Mastel is running for City Council. Because of
this, the Commission decided that plaques should be provided
by the City or Roseville Human Rights Commission. The
Commission also discussed having a revolving plaque rather
than handing out three new plaques each year.
