<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1994 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Trainor <br />at 8:05 p.m. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call <br />Members present: Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Jill <br />Bergquist, Bob Bancroft, stan Borden, Mike Hermes, Thelma <br />McKenzie, Larissa Rippley, and Mike Trainor. <br /> <br />Members absent: Susan Forsyth and Maria Reed. <br /> <br />others present: Patricia Johnson, Council Liaison, and <br />Steve North, Staff Liaison. <br /> <br />III. Approval of Minutes <br />Stan Borden moved, Thelma McKenzie seconded, that the <br />minutes of the July 12, 1994, meeting be approved. Roll <br />Call, Ayes: All present. Nays: None. <br /> <br />IV. Bias/Hate Crimes <br />Mike Trainor reported that all Human Rights Commissions <br />have received a copy of Roseville's Bias/Hate Crime <br />Response Plan. <br /> <br />V . CABLE <br />Mike Hermes indicated he will be co-hosting a monthly <br />program on Cable Channel 33 called "Soft Copy". There will <br />be five different topics on each one hour show. He asked <br />fpr two members of the Commission to be on the show in <br />October. <br /> <br />Mike indicated that the public service announcements have <br />been on hold, but he and Larissa Rippley will begin working <br />on them soon. <br /> <br />VI. ESSAY COMPETITION <br />Jill Bergquist has talked to the Shoreview Human Rights <br />Commission regarding the Essay Contest. Shoreview has <br />decided they do not want to do a contest in the High <br />School. They would prefer to do the Middle School in a <br />cooperative venture with Roseville. They would also like <br />to expand the contest to fifth and sixth graders. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed the best ways of working with the <br />Shoreview Commission on the Essay Contest. It was decided <br />that Jill will meet again with the Shoreview representative <br />to develop a proposal for discussion at the October <br />Commission meeting. <br /> <br />Jill will also prepare possible questions for the contest <br />to be considered by the Commission at the October meeting. <br />
