HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1994 1. Call to Order The meeting was at 8:05 p.m. Roll Call Members present: called to order by Commission Chair Trainor II. Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Jill Berg- quist, Bob Bancroft, Stan Borden, Susan Forsyth, Mike Hermes, Thelma McKenzie, Larissa Rippley, Alex Schlief, and Mike Trainor. Members absent: Maria Reed. Others present: Steve North, Staff Liaison. III. Approval of Minutes Mike Hermes moved, Mary Jean Turinia Anderson seconded, that the minutes of the October 11, 1994 meeting be approved. Roll Call, Ayes: All present. Nays: None. IV. Bias Hate Crimes Mike Trainor indicated the Chamber of Commerce Executive Board will be considering naming a person to be placed on the Commission's response network. V. Cable Mike Hermes reported the tapi:.g of the "Soft Copy" segment with the Human Rights Commission will be done on November 22 or 23. Jill Bergquist volunteered to represent the Commission on the program. VI. Essav Competition Jill Bergquist indicated letters seeking essays have gone out to schools. The essays are due on December I, 1994. Mike Trainor and Stan Borden will pick up the essays from the schools on December I, and deliver the essays to Jill. The December 13 Commission meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. to provide time for the selection of the essay winners. VII. Student Consultant Mike Trainor and Commission members welcomed new Student Consultant Alex Schlief to the Commission. Alex is .a senior at Roseville Area High School, National Honor Society Member, and Eagle Scout. He will participate on the Commission through his senior year.
