<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1994 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Trainor <br />at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />II . <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Excused Absences: <br /> <br />Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Michael <br />Trainor, Stan Borden, Bob Bancroft, <br />Mike Hermes, Jill Bergquist, Beatriz <br />Menanteau <br />Pat Johnson, Council Liaison <br />Laura Kushner, Staff Liaison <br />Maria Reed, Thelma McKenzie, David <br />Norrgard <br />None <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />Unexcused Absences: <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes. A motion for approval of the January <br />11, 1994 Minutes was made by Mary Jean Turinia Anderson and <br />seconded by Bob Bancroft. All ayes. <br /> <br />IV. Election of Vice Chair. It was decided that the election of <br />a Vice Chair would be postponed until April elections. <br /> <br />V. Rosefest Parade. Mike Hermes reported that he had enlisted <br />the Human Rights Commission as an entry in the Rosefest <br />Parade. The entry will consist of the three Essay Contest <br />winners riding in a convertible. They will also be invited <br />to the post-parade reception. The parade is June 27 and the <br />winners should be available by 5:45 p.m. Sashes must be <br />ordered for the contest winners and some type of signage <br />must be made for the car. Kushner will write letters to the <br />winners inviting them to participate in the parade. <br /> <br />VI. Bias/Hate Crime Report. Mike Trainor presented information <br />he obtained from the BCA regarding bias offenses in <br />Minnesota. He also discussed bringing the final changes on <br />the bias response plan to the next Commission meeting then <br />to the City Council for approval. Council approval is <br />required in order to obtain the participation of the Chamber <br />of Commerce. <br /> <br />VII. <br /> <br />Grievance Update. No new grievances filed. <br /> <br />VIII. Leaque Posters. Mike Trainor passed around copies of <br />posters available from the League on various human rights <br />issues. The Commission voted to purchase 4 sets of the <br />posters at a cost of $16, plus $5 postage. Motion to <br />purchase was made by Stan Borden and seconded by Mike <br />Hermes. All Ayes. <br />
