Roseville Human Rights Commission Minutes
April 9, 1996

3

Keys mentioned that the Shoreview Commission is trying to recruit students by
offering 1 class credit for participation.

IX. Other Business

A. Trainor asked staff to check on whether it would be appropriate for the
Commission to send a letter to City Manager Steve Sarkozy recommending Tom
Alleva for Chief of Police. Alleva was instrumental in the development of the
Commission's bias/hate crimes response, which has become a model for
Commissions all over the state.

Trainor also reported that Alleva thinks that it would be a great idea for the
Commission to participate in the next police open house.

B. Bergquist reported that she will be a participatant on a panel at the
League of Minnesota Cities Annual Conference: "Dealing with Intolerance in
Your Community." Bergquist will be discussing Roseville's Bias Response Plan,
and will meet with Trainor to discuss possible questions.

C. Commissioners Keys and Stillman from the Shoreview Commission
discussed current projects and suggestions for Roseville Commission
participation. Shoreview has a computer donation project underway, which was
started in conjunction with a planned "Sister City" program with the Frogtown
neighborhood in St. Paul. Shoreview has promises for computer donations, and
asked Roseville to consider picking up the project, in light of the Shoreview
Council's rejection of the Sister City program. Roseville Commission members
expressed an interest in the Sister City relationship, and the possibility of
developing some cultural exchange events. McKenzie suggested getting the "5
city" group involved in the project. The Commissioners agreed to continue this
discussion at the June meeting.

X. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

XI. Next Meetino
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June~, at 7:00 p.m. in Roseville City
Hall.
