Memo

To: Human Rights Commissioners

From: Marcy Cordes

Re: Meeting summary

Date: April 3, 1996

Only four Commissioners were able to attend the Human Rights Commission meeting scheduled
for March 11, 1996. Since this number did not constitute a quorum, Vice Chair Bergquist
determined that a meeting should not be convened that evening.

Commissioners Bergquist, Forsyth, Henquinet and McKenzie did have informal discussions with
regard to the following:

A. Grant Proposal
Unfortunately, the Commission did not receive any grant monies for the two videos being
planned with Mike Patrick and Ruth McKenzie. Alternatives will be discussed at the next
meeting.

B. 1996 Budget
The Commission has a 1996 budget of$I,350. Of that total, approximately $175 was
spent on the essay contest. In addition, League dues of$175 will be deducted from this
total. Steve North also dedicated $650 for the video. However, since the Commission did
not receive the grant, the appropriate use of these funds will be discussed at the next
meeting.

C. Jill Bergquist and Thelma McKenzie tentatively planned to attend the Maplewood meeting
of Ramsey County Human Rights Commissions, scheduled for April 2.

D. Marcy Cordes distributed copies of proposed legislative bills which addressed the case
back-log at the Department of Human Rights. (S.F. 2709 (sec. 8 of S.F. 2587), requiring
the Commissioner to present a plan for the elimination of the back-log, passed as part of
the State Dept. bill)).

The minutes from the February 13, 1996 meeting will be voted on during the next meeting,
scheduled for April 11 at 7:00 p.m. See everyone there!
