Roseville Human Rights Commission Minutes
February 12, 1996
Page 2

The Commission agreed to entitle the program, '''Human Rights & You"
sponsored by the Roseville Human Rights Commission.

Essav Contest
Jill Bergquist reported that the awards ceremony went well. The mayor spoke,
and 4 of the 5 students attending read their essays. Mike Hermes brought blank
certificates for all of the students who participated. Commissioners divided up
the certificates, to fill out and deliver to respective schools.

VI. Grievance Update
No report.

VII. Other Business
A. Grant Proposal
Request for proposals from any public organization involved with
disabilities issues. Council approved grant submission on February 12.
Two videos were proposed, one on disabilities and one on gender equity,
featuring Mike Patrick and Ruth McKenzie respectively. Both will require
an honorarium. City administration agreed to commit 1/4 of the cost or
$680. The League agreed to contribute $400 to the project. Susan
Forsyth reported that she was in the process of taking bids on
videography, and would report back at the next meeting. CTV will do the
production work. Mike Hermes and Chris Malark volunteered to help with
scripting of the programs.

B. Maplewood Meeting
Mike Hermes attended the January 23 regional meeting in Maplewood.
Unfortunately, Roseville was the only Commission that sent a
representative to the meeting. Another joint commission meeting is
scheduled for April 2, at 7:00 p.m., in Maplewood. Maplewood has asked
for a 5 minute presentation on current activities from each Commission in
attendance.

Mike Hermes moved that the Commission participate in the April meeting
in Maplewood. Thelma McKenzie seconded, with an amendment that the
Commission's presentation be prepared in advance.
Roll Call: Ayes, all present. Nays, none.

C. Student Representative
Jill Bergquist reported that the ISD 623 multicultural committee agreed to
help the Commission recruit a student representative for the Fall of '96.
