<br />Hermes also reminded Commissioners that the Essay Contest winners can <br />participate in the Rosefest parade. The parade will again be televised on <br />cable. <br /> <br />6) Human Rights Excellence Award <br />It was mentioned that the Maplewood Excellence Award has a curriculum <br />award for teachers rather than only a business based award. <br /> <br />7) Peer Mediation Programs for Schools <br />Michael Jordan spoke about his recent involvement with the peer mediation <br />process. He stated that peer mediation programs might not be followed <br />because teachers are not modeling the behavior. He will write a letter to the <br />school district to offer the Commission's assistance in building a strong peer <br />mediation program since many of the Commissioners are already trained in <br />mediation. He believes that the Commission can playa more active role in <br />setting up and maintaining a program. <br /> <br />8) Statewide Human Rights Essay Contest <br />Topic was postponed until Thelma McKenzie is present. <br /> <br />9) Other Business/Announcements <br />In order to further promote the work of the Commission, ways to reach new <br />residents will be investigated. Avenues such as the Welcome Wagon and <br />City promotional materials were discussed. <br /> <br />The Commission proposed participating in League-sponsored Idea <br />Exchanges with other Commissions. <br /> <br />Boily-Salmanpour moved, Egli seconded that the application of Marcella <br />Houser be accepted as the Commission's Youth Representative. <br /> <br />10)Adjournment <br />Hermes moved, Boily-Salmanpour seconded that the meeting be adjourned <br />at 8:00. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />11)Next Meeting <br />The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00pm in Roseville City <br />Hall. <br />
