Egli made an alternative motion to score the Socha essay like the others that were pre-read and reorder the winning essays if the Socha essay was graded higher (Because Afwerke needed to leave the meeting early, his vote will be counted and the Commission will be notified by phone, email or mail, as to the order of the essays.), Hermes seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The Commission agreed to accept the placement order of the essays after re- grading had occurred. Winners and their teachers will be notified by mail. The League of MN Human Rights Commissions entry deadline is February 1 and the winners are scheduled to be announced March 1. Because of the personal nature of some of the essays, it was discussed that names and identifying characteristics may need to be redacted if the essays are to be published or read on TV. 6) Cable Program/Promotion Hermes completed two public service announcements to run on cable. The PSA's are scheduled to begin in January. 7) Acceptance of Nominations for Commission ChairNice Chair McKenzie nominated Bergquist to serve as Commission Chair. Egli moved its acceptance, Boily-Salmanpour seconded. Motion passed unanimously. McKenzie nominated Hermes to serve as Commission Vice Chair. McKenzie moved its acceptance, Gordon seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 8) Other Business/Announcements Gordon passed out a proposed resolution regarding police department's policies on high-speed police pursuits. This issue will be discussed at the next meeting. Egli notified the Commission of one issue that his wife has seen while serving on the City Center Task Force. He would like to be sure that all residents are treated fairly in the use of community property and that usage fees are not unfairly inflated in order to keep out individuals of any race or economic status. 9) Adjournment Hermes moved, McKenzie seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:45pm. Motion passed unanimously. 10)Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00pm in Roseville City Hall.
