Bethel College

Phil Crump said that he has spoken with a member of the Shoreview Human Rights Commission
about recent hate crimes at Bethel College. Crump asked that the Commission join with Shoreview
HRC to make a statement condemning such actions. Thelma McKenzie said she had made several
attempts to work with the College but they said they've hired an expert and did not need the
Commission's assistance. McKenzie said she sent them information anyway.

Commissioners discussed possible actions including a letter to the editor or a paid advertisement in
the Bethel College Newspaper. Carolyn Cmii will contact Bethel College to see if they have a
paper and when it is published.

City Intake

Steve Smith contacted the Department of Human Rights about the Commission handling Intakes for
Human Rights complaints. The Roseville HRC had taken an active role in the past but discontinued
in the early 1990s. Ifthe HRC wants to stmi doing this again, Commissioners would need training
m1d would help to collect initial information only. McKenzie suggested that the Commission
reestablish the Hate/Bias Crime Network.

Miscellaneous

No meeting in July.

Because of construction at City Hall, the August and September meetings will be in the Skating
Center.

Adjournment

Steve Zorn moved and Phil Crump seconded that the meeting adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 8:45
p.m.
