<br />Bethel College <br /> <br />Phil Crump said that he has spoken with a member of the Shoreview Human Rights Commission <br />about recent hate crimes at Bethel College. Crump asked that the Commission join with Shoreview <br />HRC to make a statement condemning such actions. Thelma McKenzie said she had made several <br />attempts to work with the College but they said they've hired an expert and did not need the <br />Commission's assistance. McKenzie said she sent them information anyway. <br /> <br />Commissioners discussed possible actions including a letter to the editor or a paid advertisement in <br />the Bethel College Newspaper. Carolyn Cmii will contact Bethel College to see if they have a <br />paper and when it is published. <br /> <br />City Intake <br /> <br />Steve Smith contacted the Department of Human Rights about the Commission handling Intakes for <br />Human Rights complaints. The Roseville HRC had taken an active role in the past but discontinued <br />in the early 1990s. Ifthe HRC wants to stmi doing this again, Commissioners would need training <br />m1d would help to collect initial information only. McKenzie suggested that the Commission <br />reestablish the Hate/Bias Crime Network. <br /> <br />Miscellaneous <br /> <br />No meeting in July. <br /> <br />Because of construction at City Hall, the August and September meetings will be in the Skating <br />Center. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br /> <br />Steve Zorn moved and Phil Crump seconded that the meeting adjourn.
