Steve Zorn moved and Mark Chapin seconded a motion that the Human Rights Commission
send a letter to the City Council stating that Commissioners reviewed the material, met with the
Parks and Recreation Director and discussed the issues and found that the current policy is ok
and should remain at it is. The motion passed unanimously. Carolyn Curti will draft a letter and
circulate it by email to the Commissioners. Thelma McKenzie will sign the final document.

Lonnie Brokke briefly explained about the June 23 Rose Parade, the kickoff to the annual
Rosefest. This year's theme is 'Together We Play." Brokke encouraged the Commission to
participate in the parade as we have done in past years.

City Signage

Mark Chapin has been doing work on improving City signage to help create a better identity for
the City of Roseville. Mark moved and Phil Crump seconded that the Human Rights
Commission submit a recommendation to the City Council to locate welcoming signs in different
locations in the City.

The motion reads: "The Roseville Human Rights Commission believes that a community's
sense of place can enhance community relations. For this reason, the Human Rights
Commission recommends that the City Council consider the creation and placement of
appropriate signage that reflects the history, population and welcoming message of the City of
Roseville at key intersections and locations near the geographic boundaries of the City."

Commission members discussed specifics of what should be on the signs. Carolyn Curti
reported that Council Member Tom Kough recently met with several civic organizations
(Kiwanas, VFW, Lions Club) discussing this issue. Commissioners said that the City Council
would decide the specific wording on the signage. The motion passed unanimously. Carolyn
Curti will forward the message to the full City Council.

Committee Reports

HRC Brochure - Steve Zorn and Martha Hardesty had drafted an initial draft of the brochure.
Steve and Martha will look at it again and will make draft language available for discussion at
the April meeting.

Commissioners discussed the purpose of the brochure. It seems that we have two audiences:
those who have a Human Rights Complaint and those who the Commission wants to provide
information and education. The brochure should say what education/opportunities we can
provide for businesses. Commissioners discussed ways to increase the Commission's visibility.
Suggestions include getting a story in the Roseville Wrap and getting an email address that we
can publicize. Carolyn will work with City staff to accomplish both of these. Com~issioners
asked about the Roseville Community Fund and whether the Commission would be eligible for
funding to distribute brochures and other information. Carolyn will provide information at the
next meeting.
