Carolyn Curti

. I will add this item
to the June agenda.

FYI. Where does Roseville sit with this? Any idea?
Crystal City Council Expands Local Human Rights Ordinance

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 17, the Crystal City Council voted unanimously to update the city's human rights
ordinance, which until now had failed to include "sexual orientation" in its list of protected categories. Last year, OutFront
Minnesota's Legal & Policy Analyst, Phil Duran, discovered the inconsistency between the local ordinance and the
Minnesota Human Rights Act, likely due to the city simply overlooking the ordinance after state law was amended to
include that category. As soon as the inconsistency between was pointed out, the folks in Crystal moved quickly to address
it. The change will formally give the Crystal Human Rights Commission authority to address sexual orientation- and gender
identity-related issues in Crystal, and to informally resolve complaints regarding sexual orientation/gender identity-related
discrimination in the community.

.During the same meeting, Mayor ReNae Bowman issued a proclamation declaring June 24-26 to be Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Days in Crystal, a resolution sought by Twin Cities Pride. If you live in Crystal, contact
Mayor Bowman and thank her for standing up for fairness and equality for all of Crystal's residents by updating the human
rights ordinance and signing the GLBT Pride Proclamation. You can reach Mayor Bowman at (763) 531-1001 or
renaebowman(Q)comcast. net.

Roseville's Code states the following:

1207.27:

NONDISCRIMINATION:

The franchisee shall at all times comply with the provision of the City of Roseville Code and applicable state
and federal law regarding nondiscrimination and civil rights. The franchisee, its agents, employees, contractors
and subcontractors shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, religion
or disability in connection with its services provided pursuant to this Franchise Ordinance.

Carolyn Curti
Communications Specialist
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Drive
.Roseville, MN 55113
651-792-7026 (phone)
651-792-7020 (fax)

1
