<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />January 10, 2006 <br /> <br />Present: Thelma McKenzie, Janet Delmore, Scott Higbee, Ann Kenney, and Bob Venters <br />Absent: Phillip Crump, Steve Smith <br /> <br />Chair Janet Delmore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Approve Minutes <br /> <br />Commissioner Ann Kenney moved and Commissioner Scott Higbee seconded approval of the <br />December 2005 minutes. Motion prevailed. <br /> <br />Essay Contest <br /> <br />Not all Commissioners had submitted their essays scores, so the Commission directed staff to <br />total the scores and send the names of those who received the top scores. <br /> <br />Meeting with Police Chief <br /> <br />Commissioner Bob Venters and Commissioner Ann Kenney reported on their meeting with <br />Police Chief Carol Sletner and Lieutenant Rick Mathwig. They reported that it was a positive <br />meeting. Their goal was to lay the groundwork for a positive working relationship. They offered <br />to be available to the Police Department for any discussions on human rights. <br /> <br />The Chief and Lieutenant walked through what happens when the Police do a traffic stop. They <br />also talked about the dangers Police officers face everyday. Officers must remain on alert -- <br />anyone they meet could want to do them harm. <br /> <br />Commissioners Venters and Kenney agreed to continue working on establishing a relationship <br />with the Roseville Police Department. <br /> <br />Tenants Rights <br /> <br />Commissioner Venters raised concerns about tenants' rights and ensuring that homeowners do <br />not take advantage of potential renters. Commissioners reviewed Commissioner Venters' <br />document which outlined tenants' rights and responsibilities. He agreed to represent the <br />Commission at the upcoming Housing and Redevelopment Authority meeting in which the HRA <br />planned to hold a public hearing on rental licensing. <br /> <br />1 <br />
