RosevilIe Human Rights Commission
Meeting Minntes - May 08, 2007
Page 2 of3

Additional discussion included the target audience of the video; various uses; whether an adult
facilitator was needed; training of facilitators; organizations and audiences that could utilize the
video as a tool; and current uses (i.e., Bible Study groups).

Chair Delmore volunteered to follow-up with the Commission's previous questions of City
Manager Malinen regarding the diversity training currently available to City employees.

Commissioner Crump suggested that by referencing some of the segments the newly-released
DVD would be a good discussion for use in the upcoming essay contest.

Commissioner McGehee suggested this DVD may be more suitable for an older (i.e., High
School) group as a separate item and suggested that training be provided for Roseville facilitators
for group or home settings.

Chair Delmore opined that there was racial profiling in Roseville and expressed her passion
about this topic further opining her support of the essay contest using this, then branching out
with a forum and connection with the schools; while continuing to keep pushing the City to
address racism in the community.

Additional discussion following the viewing of several scenarios from the DVD, included cost of
the kits (free); training available and how to facilitate training.

Ms. Shipchandler advised that in order for her to coordinate training and presentation of the
materials she would like to first see the Commission develop a plan to create traction and to
recruit people. Ms. Shipchandler suggested that those in mid-level management were usually
more receptive to the training and developing a passion for the topic. Ms. Shipchandler referred
Commissioners to the Foundation's website for a list of groups who've used the materials to-date
and referenced the website for the Itasca Group - Mind the Gap -
www.UnitedWavTwinCities.org and their report section and companion report outlining
strategies to close the gap in order for the Commission to review other action ideas.

Commissioners supported a "brown bag" lunch training session as an initial training session.

Commissioner Crump suggested that while the DVD revisions were being completed, the
Commission work on a marketing plan and pitch to the City employees; then prepare flyers and
e-mail notices for scheduling.

Ms. Shipe handler thanked the Commissioners for their interest and advised that she would
contact Chair Delmore in several weeks to determine whether she should tailor assistance to
meet the needs of the City.

Chair Delmore noted that additional discussion on a plan could be held at the June meeting and
advised that the Commission would not meet in July.
