Chief Sletner sun~narized duties of the department in diverting
traffic and recovery efforts and ongoing assistance until relieved by
other agencies. Chief Sletner noted the assistance of the Ramsey
County Dispatch Center in holding non-emergency calls for assis-
tance; numerous police reserve and off-duty officers responding to the
department offering their assistance as needed. Chief Sletner thanked
residents, personally and on behalf of the department, for their many
cards of support and comments, noting that they were greatly appreci-
ated.
Fire Chief Gasaway provided additional photos of the rescue and re-
covery efforts; and initial response calls for equipment and personnel
resources. Chief Gasaway noted the attendance at tonight's meeting
of a number of firefighters, noting that others were currently at Cen-
tral Park for Family Night Out; and expressed his pride of them, both
as a resident of Roseville and as the Fire Chief, publicly thanking
them and opining that their commitment to service "humbled" him.
Chief Gasaway reviewed the department's main responsibility for res-
cue operations on the north shore, noting many phenomenal rescues,
victim removal and injury assessment. Chief Gasaway advised that
the department had worked on land and by boat in the river during the
rescue operations. Chief Gasaway opined that the residents of Rose-
ville were extremely well-served by the professional and dedicated
safety officers who, during a high stress and chaotic situation, re-
sponded with organization and professionalism.
