Special i Co ncil ccti
Monday, August , 2007
Page 27
Al Sands, 2612 Aldine
Mr. Sands opined that the outside auditor should be asked to provide
his recommendation, since it was his report; and that he should be in-
formed of tonight's action and then make his decision.
Finance hector Chris biller
l~~Ir. Miller concurred with Mr. Sands' suggestion; that if the City At-
torney was amending their position on the impact of Twin Lakes liti-
gation, the City Attorney send a letter to the City Auditor and let the
Auditor determine whether it changed their audit opinion. Mr. Miller
noted that the audit report captured the City's financial situation on
December 31, 2006; and this motion would propose that information
made available on August 6, 2007 be incorporated into that report.
Mr. Miller noted that allowances and expected subsequent events
were taken into account when the audit was done; however, this tim-
ing and step was unusual.
Mayor Klausing noted that the auditor's response may indicate no
change, as his prerogative, or changes could ultimately be made to the
report. Mayor Klausing opined that he had no problem with the City
Attorney preparing a letter for potential attachment to the 2006 finan-
cial report, and letting the auditor make the call.
Councilmember Ihlan opined that the City was aware of pending liti-
gation on December 31, 2006; however, that they didn't know the
outcome of the litigation. Councilmember Ihlan further opined that
there was a distinction between the audit report and the auditor's pro-
fessional opinion, and the City's comprehensive annual financial re-
port and full disclosure by the City. Councilmember Ihlan reiterated
her concern that this information gets into the report so the taxpayer
on the street or on line can see the footnote line.
Councilmember Pust requested that someone put the letter on line and
any additional copies of the report have the letter inserted; however,
asked that taxpayer monies not be spend on reprinting the report.
e.
