City Council Study Session
Monday, September 17, 2007
Page 14
breach of contract, as lessees recognized the advantages of such an
improvement.
Councilmember Pust questioned if the restaurant fronted north, rather
than west, with a road in front, whether that would not impede any-
one's sight line, while allowing the road to be relocated.
Mr. Swanson noted that Skillman ran into an Outlot.
Ms. Bloom assured Councilmembers and Har Mar representatives that
it would be possible to work through the issues; with a proposal pro-
vided to HarMar's architect two (2) weeks ago for options; with staff
awaiting input from the developers to determine what would work on
their site.
Councilmember Pust respectfully requested that HarMar representa-
tives look at available options; and encouraged them to make a posi-
tive pitch to anchor tenants related to advantages in location of the
restaurant.
Councilmember Ihlan concurred; and asked that the developer be will-
ing to look at alternatives to facilitate these much-needed safety and
traffic congestion improvements, and benefits for future plans and op-
portunities for Har Mar and adjacent parcels.
Mayor Klausing respectfully requested that Har Mar recognize exist-
ing traffic and safety issues needing to be addressed; and expressed
the City Council's sensitivity to Har Mar's concerns, noting their his-
tory as a good corporate citizen. However, Mayor Klausing asked
that Har Mar encourage a discussion of benefits to lessees, via good
sales pitches, through easier access and increased traffic into the site.
Mayor Klausing encouraged staff and Har Mar representatives to con-
tinue looking at various options to achieve everyone's objectives for
the overall benefit of all, while not creating additional problems for
Har Mar, but allowing for benefits and improvements for their situa-
tion as well.
Mr. Hart expressed appreciation for Mayor Klausing's comments;
however noted the delicate nature of negotiations currently underway
