Council Communications, Reports and Announcements <br />None. <br />5. Report Items <br />a. Presentation of the Ramsey County Library Phase II Addition <br />and Remodel <br />A presentation by David Norrgard, Roseville resident, 2499 N Albert <br />and Library Board Trustee; and Susan Nemitz, Library Director, were <br />present to provide a preliminary overview of a proposed Phase II Ad- <br />dition and Remodel at Ramsey County Library -Roseville. A sum- <br />mary of their presentation is attached as a bench handout. <br />Mr. Norrgard reviewed the basics, circulation, opportunities available <br />through the library system; and advised that the decision-making <br />process was in its initial stages with the Ramsey County Board of <br />Commissioners, and the City of Roseville's Planning staff. <br />Ms. Nemitz expressed her appreciation to the City's Planning staff for <br />their valuable consultations and service throughout the planning and <br />redesign process; and Information Technology staff in working on <br />bandwidth issues and rethinking various amenities related to the <br />much-needed increase in computer technologies and equipment avail- <br />ability. <br />Ms. Nemitz acknowledged the library's focus on doing more with <br />less; over 18,000 hours of volunteer hours in 2006; increasing gifts <br />and grants over $125,000 annually; "Friends of the Library" raising <br />over $100,000 in 2006, enabling them to hire a professional fund- <br />raiser; and the Board's approach to upgrading facilities. Ms. Nemitz <br />reviewed the Phase I Master Plan; reduction in operating costs as <br />other suburban area libraries in the system; and the success in building <br />a new facility in Maplewood and successful sale of the previous facil- <br />ity, Ms. Nemitz reviewed the process to-date of purchasing land north <br />of the current Roseville Library facility through condemnation pro- <br />ceedings in the summer of 2006; receipt of some funds from Ramsey <br />
