GOAL #2: STAFF DIVERSITY/STUDENT DIVERSITY <br />EMID GOAL -Create safe respectful environments for diverse learners of all ages by <br />providing: employee training, enforcement of statutes, responsive classrooms, cross- <br />district community circles, support groups for kids, support for multi-racial <br />students/families, education on hate groups, student and teacher exchanges. <br />ROSEVILLE OBJECTIVE: <br />Provide safe (physical and emotional), respectful environments for diverse <br />employees, students and families. <br />NEEDS ASSESSMENT DATA: McRel Survey -January 2002, Roseville <br />Tchr. Admin. _ "Strop ly Agree" <br />19.1 % 0% "Teachers in my school understand the ways in which <br />race/ethnicity, social class, and gender interact to influence students' <br />success in school." <br />36.4% 25% "My school ensures that all students have equitable <br />opportunities to learn and meet high standards." <br />33.6% 25% "My school exhibits a learning climate that celebrates <br />diversity, reflects fairness, and respects the individual." <br />10.4% 25% "In my school, people in leadership roles reflect the <br />diversity of the student population and the broader community." <br />STRATEGIES: <br />1. Provide opportunities for students, families, and staff from different racial, <br />ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic groups to interact under conditions that are <br />designed to foster productive social interactions. <br />2. Increase employee diversity to reflect the population served. <br />SUGGESTED OUTCOMES: <br />l . Work with university teacher preparation programs, such as the CUE <br />program at St. Thomas, to increase the number of district employees that reflect <br />our underrepresented populations. <br />2. Continue to promote and fund multicultural groups (ie: African American <br />Men's group, Asian Women's group...) that provide integration opportunities <br />within the school district and with St. Paul. <br />3. Encourage and support grants written for Roseville and St. Paul classroom <br />integration experiences through local and EMID funding. <br />4. Provide funding for individual schools and programs to ensure that all <br />learning climates honor diversity and reflect fairness and respect for individuals. <br />5. Implement the Anti-Bullying curriculum or other respect-based <br />curriculum throughout the K-12 system. <br />6. Devise a plan to attract and retain diverse students and families to the <br />Roseville School District. <br />4 <br />
