Regular City Couucil Meetiug
Monday, January 28, 2008
Page 19
Mr. Kysylyczyu opined that, while not a proponent of more government pro-
grams, this may serve as the impetus for a greater, more in-depth discussion,
where a little work may prevent a huge problem in the future.
Councilmember Pust, as liaison to the City's HRA, advised that the HRA is cur-
rently looking at that issue; and invited public comment at the HRA level.
Councilmember Ihlan questioned what the Community Development Department
was doing to monitor homes under foreclosure or identifying lender contacts; and
sought a future report for additional follow-up.
Mr. Talbot noted that the City of Roseville was blessed in that few homes were
experiencing foreclosure issues at this time. Mr. Talbot noted that staff was hav-
ing difficulty in identifying mortgage owners when properties were in transition;
and was very supportive of the HRA's involvement.
Councilmember Pust opined that there was a role for the market to play in the
process as well.; and while the City needed to be cognizant of foreclosures and
impacts on neighboring properties, if a property were in foreclosure, the process
needed to play out first.
Mayor Klausing closed the Public Hearing at 8:28 p.m.
Pust moved, Ihlan seconded, authorizing staff to abate the unsafe structures and
the public nuisance violation at 196 County Road C (following notifications pro-
cedures per state statute) by hiring a contractor to: the garage (and its contents),
the deck, the vestibule and the junk vehicles; with the property owner to be billed
for actual and administrative costs, and if charges are not paid, staff is to recover
costs as specified in Section 407.07B, with costs to be reported to the City Coun-
cil following said abatement, as detailed in the staff report dated January 28,
2008.
Roll Call
Ayes: Pust; Roe; Ihlan; and Klausing.
Nays: None.
11.
