Special City Council Meeting
Monday, February 20, 2008
Page 2
the three categories, by identifying those preferences by sticker; color-coded to differentiate be-
tween staff and Councilmembers.
Councilmember Roe clarified that tonight's prioritization activity was not indicative that any
community goals were not important, but that priorities would be assigned, based on available
resources to implement tasks during the proposed timetrames.
Councilmember Ihlan noted that one of her original priorities, #2.A.1 entitled, "Preserve and
maintain community green spaces, parks, and open spaces, and improve as needed in response to
changing community needs," had not been included in tonight's list.
After further review, it was Council consensus that the item was incorporated in several different
items in the short-term goals, under Parks and Recreation.
Councilmember Ihlan noted her preference to include her item, exactly as stated under Item
2.A.1, in the long-term goal list.
Discussion ensued regarding the intent of the priority exercise, with some projects not conducive
for solution immediately, but with continued annual work, and tied to developing'audgets to ac-
complish the priorities, and based on the amount of human and. financial resources available
and/or allocated in annual budgets.
Mayor Klausing noted that the objective indicated preliminary weighting by the City Council
and staff followed by discussion for further refinement.
Ms. Gourlay concurred, noting that this "dot" exercise would provide more transparency, rather
than having a discussion beforehand with each party advocating for their particular priorities.
