Special City Council Meeting <br />Monday, February 20, 2008 <br />Page 2 <br />the three categories, by identifying those preferences by sticker; color-coded to differentiate be- <br />tween staff and Councilmembers. <br />Councilmember Roe clarified that tonight's prioritization activity was not indicative that any <br />community goals were not important, but that priorities would be assigned, based on available <br />resources to implement tasks during the proposed timetrames. <br />Councilmember Ihlan noted that one of her original priorities, #2.A.1 entitled, "Preserve and <br />maintain community green spaces, parks, and open spaces, and improve as needed in response to <br />changing community needs," had not been included in tonight's list. <br />After further review, it was Council consensus that the item was incorporated in several different <br />items in the short-term goals, under Parks and Recreation. <br />Councilmember Ihlan noted her preference to include her item, exactly as stated under Item <br />2.A.1, in the long-term goal list. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the intent of the priority exercise, with some projects not conducive <br />for solution immediately, but with continued annual work, and tied to developing'audgets to ac- <br />complish the priorities, and based on the amount of human and. financial resources available <br />and/or allocated in annual budgets. <br />Mayor Klausing noted that the objective indicated preliminary weighting by the City Council <br />and staff followed by discussion for further refinement. <br />Ms. Gourlay concurred, noting that this "dot" exercise would provide more transparency, rather <br />than having a discussion beforehand with each party advocating for their particular priorities. <br />
