FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
The COPS More Universal Hiring Grant that the Roseville Police Department is pursuing will
allow for the salary of a full-time, entry level officer for a period of three years. The grant money
awarded shall not exceed $75,000 with the balance of the entry level officer's salary provided by
the City of Roseville.
Should the Roseville Police Department be awarded this grant, the City of Roseville would be
responsible for 45% of the entry level officer's salary. That amount (over a three year grant
period) would be $62,134.
A requirement of this grant is that the agency awarded the grant monies commit to retaining the
school liaison officer for twelve months after the date of grant expiration. The officer's salary
breakdown per year follows:
Year One: $39,450.00
Year Two: $46,200.00
Year Three: $51,460.00
Year Four: $56,600.00
The above salaries include FICA andbenefits.
If we include the City's portion of the salary for the first three years with the fourth year salary, the
total cost to the City for a full-time officer for four years of service would be approximately
$118, 730.00.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
The grant application has already been submitted to the Department of Justice in compliance with
a Request for Council Action, dated 7/12/99. The Department of Justice, before awarding the
grant to the City of Roseville, needs a commitment from the City that the City will retain the school
liaison officer for a period of twelve months after grant expiration date.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Authorize the City Manager and the Chief of Police to issue a letter to the Department of Justice
stating that the City Council has authorized the retention of the school liaison officer for the
required retention period.
