Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, March 24, 2008
Page 8
13. Business Items -Action
a. Appointment of Advisory Commissioners
Councilmembers briefly reviewed their individual ranking for appointment of
candidates to advisory commission vacancies, and their rationale for those rank-
ings. It was Council consensus that it was a strong pool, with all candidates quali-
fied, making the ranking more difficult.. Individual Councilmembers reviewed
their criteria for their rankings, including experience, expertise for the various
commissions, and perspectives gleaned during their personal. interviews with the
City Council.
Planning Commission
Klausing moved, Roe seconded, appointment of Andre Best to the Planning
Commission, for a term expiring March 31, 2011.
Mayor Klausing encouraged other candidates to make application for the next va-
cancy; and to stay involved in the community. Mayor Klausing advised that in
his rankings, he took into consideration the whole commission currently serving,
and who would best fit into that group, based on their expertise.
Councilmember Roe concurred with Mayor Klausing, noting that it took him and
others currently serving as Councilmembers, several opportunities applying to the
Planning Commission prior to their appointment.
Roll Call
Ayes: Pust; Ihlan; Roe; and Klausing.
Nays: None.
Pust moved, Ihlan seconded, appointment of Ms. Teresa Bailey to the Police Civil.
Service Commission, for a term expiring March 31, 2011.
Councilmember Pust noted Ms. Bailey's experience in the Human Resource field,
and with union and collective bargaining issues and agreements as serving the
community well on this commission.
Roll Call
Ayes: Pust; Ihlan; Roe; and Klausing.
Nays: None.
Roe moved, Ihlan seconded, appointment of Patrick Schmidt to the Ethics Com-
mission, for a term expiring March 31, 2011.
Councilmember Roe noted that, while all were great candidates, Mr. Schmidt's
experience and background, as well as his personal approach to ethics expressed
during his personal interview, made him stand out.
