Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, Apri114, 2008
Page 9
Councilmember Pust, and Councilmember Roe, advised that Wednesday May 21St
was available on their schedules.
Mayor Klausing directed staff to pursue those dates referenced; with the meeting
to be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers, with both groups at the work ta-
ble.
12. Business Items -Presentation Continued
b. Presentation to the City Council on the Comprehensive Plan Updating Proc-
ess (PROJ 0004)
Economic Development Associate Jamie Radel introduced Mr. Rusty Fifield of
Hoisington Koegler Group Inc. (HKGI), consultant to the City in the update of the
Comprehensive Plan.
Mr. Fifield presented an updated timeline for the planning process and work to-
date by the Steering Committee; results of the March 27, 2008 Community Open
House; and a draft of the 2030 Future Land Use Map. Mr. Fifield advised that it
was anticipated that the Steering Committee would review the complete plan on
several occasions, rather than individual chapters; with a complete draft available
in June; additional meetings of the Committee scheduled in June and July.
Mr. Fifield advised that 70 citizens had attended the Open House, with 25 com-
ment forms returned. Mr. Fifield presented a breakdown of comments; ages rep-
resented; home-ownership and type of households represented; noting that there
were only two business representatives at the Open House, and advising that addi-
tional business community input would be sought.
Mr. Fifield opined that it had proven to be a great process to-date working with
staff and the Steering Committee, and remained a challenge to move the process
forward in the tight time constraints.
10. Presentations
a. Joint Meeting with the Human Rights Commission
Mayor Klausing welcomed Human Rights Commission (HRC) Chair Janet Del-
more; and Commissioners Bob Venters and Marie Oftelie, presenters; and recog-
nized Commissioner Thelma McKenzie, in attendance in the audience. Chair
Delmore noted that remaining HRC Commissioners: Commissioners Tam McGe-
hee; Philip Crump; and Pamela Bosch were unable to attend tonight's meeting.
Chair Delmore opined that the City had a powerful Commission this year; and re-
iterated her difficulty in containing her joy in being re-elected by fellow commis-
sioners as Chairperson. Ms. Delmore also personally thanked citizens who'd
called her last summer.
