Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, April 14, 2008
Page 8
sought potential agenda items from individual Councilmembers; and provided
prospective dates for such a joint meeting.
City Manager Malinen sought Council directive on the location of the meeting;
and potential for videotaping of such a meeting; and who should host the meeting.
Councilmember Pust opined that, to accommodate videotaping, the meeting be
held at the Roseville City Hall, with the City hosting the School Board, since the
School Board had hosted the previous meeting.
Councilmember Roe concurred with Councilmember Pust's comments.
Councilmember Ihlan questioned the purpose of such a joint meeting; whether
there were outstanding or urgent issues to discuss; and whether a similar meeting
was planned with the Mounds View School District. Councilmember Ihlan
opined that, as a matter of policy, if time were to be spent on a joint meeting with
the Roseville School District, one should also be held with the Mounds View
School District.
Mayor Klausing reviewed rationale for the joint meeting, specifically and in gen-
eral, opining such aregularly-held meeting, including Councilmember's sugges-
tion for I.S.D. #621, was prudent. Mayor Klausing opined that I.S.D. #621
(Roseville) represented a more unique situation with cooperative use by the City
and District of facilities and various land use issues; as well as providing the
School District with results of the Imagine Roseville 2025 community visioning
process, and the District's recent and similar process, suggesting that discussion
on programming and facility needs could prove beneficial to both parties. Mayor
Klausing recognized that discussions with the Mounds View School District may
be beneficial as well, and if not the entire City Council, perhaps a subcommittee.
Councilmember Pust noted that the City Council had yet to meet with the new
Superintendent for the Mounds View District; and opined that it may be a good
idea for such a meeting.
Councilmember Ihlan expressed concern with "meeting for the sake of creating
meetings;" and expressed further concern in creating a custom of joint meetings
but not treating both districts equally.
Further discussion ensued with the Council majority concurring on the advantages
of meeting with the Roseville School District Board. Suggested dates, depending
on City Council Chamber availability, with potential dates in May, before the
summer months, considered, preferably Wednesday, May 21St or Thursday, May
22nd.
