Mr. Miller noted that the requested action tonight was for staff to
continue to work with the School District and solicit bids; with staff returning to
the City Council for any further or future action or project. Mr. Miller noted that
monies were set aside and currently available in the City's Equipment Fund
Budget.
Terre Heiser, Information Technology Network Manager
Mr. Heiser provided technical information; anticipated maintenance costs to the
City's current maintenance firm at an estimated cost of $1,800 per year, or $30
per month per building; other components, such as any additional equipment with
no major costs; city ownership of the system and agreements to be put in place for
operational maintenance; responsibility of both parties for their own equipment;
potential for additional tertiary sites (i.e., private schools) and cost-sharing oppor-
tunities; and advantages of a more dependable fiber optic system, rather than a co-
ax cable and down time.
School District No. 623 representatives were in attendance, but had no comment
other than support for the proposal.
Pust moved, Ihlan seconded, authorizing staff to solicit bids for the 2008 Joint Fi-
ber Outlay project with the Roseville School District, as outlined in the staff re-
port dated May 19, 2008.
Roll Call
Ayes: Pust; Roe; Ihlan and Klausing.
Nays: None.
13. Business Items -Presentations, Discussions
a. Rainbow Foods Combined Storm Sewer System Update
City Engineer Debra Bloom briefly updated the City Council, after preparation of
the staff report dated May 19, 2008, on continuing negotiations, alternatives, and
indemnification issues for a combined storm sewer system update in the vicinity
of Larpenteur and Fernwood, and the redevelopment of the Rainbow Foods store.
Given the current lack of agreement finalized or in place, the construction sched-
ule of the developer and property owner, and in the best interest of the City, Ms.
Bloom recommended that the City not pursue a joint system at this time, but pur-
sue astand alone system or focus on the system as part of the project, but located
in a different location on the site.
Ms. Bloom noted that, with the new construction on site, the developer would be
reducing site runoff by almost 90%, with noticeable impacts to the area.
Klausing moved, Roe seconded, a motion to continue past the 10:00 p.m. curfew, extending the
meeting to 10:30 p.m.
