Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, May 19, 2008
Page 25
Roll Call
Ayes: Pust; Roe; Ihlan and Klausing.
Nays: None.
b. Strategic Plans
City Manager Malinen provided an overview of one of his goals in developing
and implementing an integrated performance management program establishing a
systematic budget process that is more than the preparation of an annual legal
document appropriating funds for a series of line items. City Manager Malinen
noted that several components were incorporated, including the Imagine Roseville
2025 Final Report.
City Manager Bill Malinen, Finance Director Chris Miller, Community Develop-
ment Director Patrick Trudgeon, Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke,
Police Chief Carol Sletner, Fire Chief Rich Gasaway and Public Works Director
Duane Schwartz each presented their department-specific mission statement.
City Manager Malinen noted that the process had been an interactive process in-
volving all staff in each department; and provided a comprehensive five-year pic-
ture of things the departments think will allow the City to be more effective, de-
pending on resources.
Mayor Klausing thanked all staff members for their work and time, in addition to
the attendance of Department Heads at tonight's meeting. Mayor Klausing
opined that one of the most rewarding things in working on the City Council was
his ability to work with the City of Roseville's quality staff; further opining that
this was the reason the city ran so well, due to those employees. Mayor Klausing
advised that he would take more time to review and absorb the materials pre-
sented by each department.
Councilmember Pust concurred with Mayor Klausing's comments; opining that
the citizens of Roseville were lucky to have each Department Head, further opin-
ing that they were each "amazing public servants."
Given the lateness of the hour, City Manager Malinen thanked the City Council
for their attention to the presentation; and for their positive comments to staff re-
garding their presentations.
14. City Manager Future Agenda Review
City Manager Malinen distributed projected agenda items for future meetings, without
discussion.
15. Councilmember-Initiated Items for Future Meetings
None.
