Special Joint Meeting Roseville City Council <br />and the Roseville Area School Board, District No. 623 <br />Wednesday, June 25, 2008 <br />Page 5 <br />Councilmember Pust requested that the more detailed information that had been <br />presented to the School District be provided to the City Council as well as they <br />considered community -wide issues and impacts. <br />Superintendent Thein advised that the School District, through the Ramsey <br />County, and in conjunction with the North Suburban Family Collaborative, and <br />along with the had received an $8 million grant over a four (4) year period to ad- <br />dress and target specific programs and facilities impact some of these areas of <br />concern. <br />Ms. Schaub advised that the grant provided for collaborative efforts, estimated to <br />be twenty-seven (27) partners including four (4) School Districts; Ramsey <br />County; and various non-profits in the area to provide additional services and po- <br />sitions (i.e., bi-cultural therapists; social workers; truancy issue coordinators; and <br />safety planning for facilities). <br />Superintendent Thein advised that the Northwest Youth and Family Services <br />(NYFS) program was one of the organizations involved in the collaborative. <br />2. Potential Partnerships <br />Substantial discussion was held regarding potential partnership opportunities between the <br />School District and City, specifically related to the representative needs of the commu- <br />nity's children and youth as a constituency base within the City. <br />Superintendent Thein noted the numerous existing respectful and cooperative relation- <br />ships and partnerships between the City and School District's personnel (i.e., shared ser- <br />vices within the Public Works, Police, and Recreational Departments). <br />Director Edstrom reported on recent discussions with graduating seniors by School Board <br />representatives and their strong desire to learn and to have that learning supported by the <br />community (i.e., counselors providing expertise on the college application process; men- <br />toring; and transportation availability through pathways). <br />Discussion ensued on effective community connectivity via sidewalks and pathways so <br />students and the entire community could safely maneuver from one part of Roseville to <br />the other for school, work, and recreational activities; need for enhanced public transpor- <br />tation options and working with the Metropolitan Council to achieve enhance those op- <br />tions. <br />Further discussion included potential collaboration by the City and School District in <br />making local legislators aware of cooperative needs that would benefit all parties. <br />Superintendent Thein specifically noted the School District's desire to support the City <br />when they sought bonding assistance through the State for the OVAL; and thanked Rep- <br />
