Special Joint Meeting Roseville City Council and the Roseville Area School Board, District No. 623 Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Page 9 Mayor Klausing expressed the City Council's pride in the business model and imple- mentation of the City's IT Department, and their service as cutting edge leaders in this area. Discussion ensued regarding collective values in phone services and technician avail- ability; access options for staff to receive messaging immediately whether in the field or in-house; and advantages in spreading costs of staff and equipment, ultimately saving costs for all parties while using existing network equipment; and four (4) year history indicating the stability of such partnering ventures. Superintendent Thein noted the close working relationship of School and City staff in technology issues; and expressed gratitude for the expertise and generosity of their time by City staff. 5. Wrap-up and Next Steps Individual and corporate review of tonight's discussion included: ^ Procedures for developing further cooperative relationships between the School District(s) and City ^ Further refinement/review of quality of life issues to enhance health and safety is- sues of our community's youth (i.e., City alcohol and tobacco compliance and School District survey accuracy results and impacts) ^ Need for further discussion of facility issues/opportunities (i.e., pathway connec- tions; artificial turf; legislation such as bonding bills); and follow-up with other organizations and the faith community in determining an inventory of actual fa- cilities and their ownership, current use and availability. ^ Further consideration of telecommunication and IT partnership advantages and opportunities ^ A joint commitment by the School Board and City for ongoing and continual re- view and update of the Imagine Roseville 2025 goals and strategies, based on community-wide needs Director Shari Dion concisely shared the comment: "Sharing spaces, places and faces" as a good goal, and was considered appropriate by consensus. Director Dion expressed her personal support for intergenerational and mentoring oppor- tunities. Councilmember Roe noted discussions during the Imagine Roseville 2025 visioning process related to community engagement, and identification of specific neighborhoods or development of additional neighborhood associations, and opined that this may repre- sent agood partnership venture for the District and City to weave those areas together, based on the smaller neighborhood schools and the District's ability to maintain a good level of communication with various neighborhoods.
