Special Joint Meeting Roseville City Council <br />and the Roseville Area School Board, District No. 623 <br />Wednesday, June 25, 2008 <br />Page 9 <br />Mayor Klausing expressed the City Council's pride in the business model and imple- <br />mentation of the City's IT Department, and their service as cutting edge leaders in <br />this area. <br />Discussion ensued regarding collective values in phone services and technician avail- <br />ability; access options for staff to receive messaging immediately whether in the field <br />or in-house; and advantages in spreading costs of staff and equipment, ultimately <br />saving costs for all parties while using existing network equipment; and four (4) year <br />history indicating the stability of such partnering ventures. <br />Superintendent Thein noted the close working relationship of School and City staff in <br />technology issues; and expressed gratitude for the expertise and generosity of their <br />time by City staff. <br />5. Wrap-up and Next Steps <br />Individual and corporate review of tonight's discussion included: <br />^ Procedures for developing further cooperative relationships between the School <br />District(s) and City <br />^ Further refinement/review of quality of life issues to enhance health and safety is- <br />sues of our community's youth (i.e., City alcohol and tobacco compliance and <br />School District survey accuracy results and impacts) <br />^ Need for further discussion of facility issues/opportunities (i.e., pathway connec- <br />tions; artificial turf; legislation such as bonding bills); and follow-up with other <br />organizations and the faith community in determining an inventory of actual fa- <br />cilities and their ownership, current use and availability. <br />^ Further consideration of telecommunication and IT partnership advantages and <br />opportunities <br />^ A joint commitment by the School Board and City for ongoing and continual re- <br />view and update of the Imagine Roseville 2025 goals and strategies, based on <br />community-wide needs <br />Director Shari Dion concisely shared the comment: "Sharing spaces, places and faces" as <br />a good goal, and was considered appropriate by consensus. <br />Director Dion expressed her personal support for intergenerational and mentoring oppor- <br />tunities. <br />Councilmember Roe noted discussions during the Imagine Roseville 2025 visioning <br />process related to community engagement, and identification of specific neighborhoods <br />or development of additional neighborhood associations, and opined that this may repre- <br />sent agood partnership venture for the District and City to weave those areas together, <br />based on the smaller neighborhood schools and the District's ability to maintain a good <br />level of communication with various neighborhoods. <br />
