Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, ,June 16, 2008
Page 11
• Commission Chair Jim DeBenedet for his comments on the T
AC
meetings.
Mr. Schwartz advised that the layout presented tonight was the most
recent; and noted considerations of the many different designs; unde-
sirability for right-of--way takings with other designs; terms of future
traffic modeling and studies; generation of an ultimate right-of--way
plan for additional and future expansions as the corridor redevelop-
ment; and challenges on the west side of the corridor for some busi-
nesses currently having direct access to Rice Street, and impacts of
proposed improvements and intersection medians. Mr. Schwartz sug-
gested that afollow-up after this planning process was completed,
maybe for cities to get together for proactive changes from a land use
perspective that may need to occur to facilitate this type of reconstruc-
tion and redevelopment.
Mr. DeBenedet noted that tonight's City Council discussion, com-
ments and questions had mirrored that of the TAC; and that those con-
siderations were also being discussed and considered at other levels
showing common thoughts on how proposed improvements would re-
late to the City of Roseville (i.e., Comprehensive Plan Steering Com-
mittee).
Council consensus was that transit stops were a major consideration
and Ramsey County Public Works staff was encouraged to keep on
track with those needs; and to pursue the commonality of community
needs as amenities and features transitioned from one community to
another.
Mayor Klausing thanked Mr. Tolas for his presentation.
b. Joint Meeting with Parks and Recreation Commission
Parks and Recreation (P & R) Commissioners present were: Interim
Vice Chair Jeff Johnson; and Commissioners Gale Pederson, Mark
Kamrath, and Harold Ristow.
On behalf of the Parks and Recreation Commission, Vice Chair John-
• son congratulated former P & R Commission Chair Robert Willmus
on his recent interim appointment to the City Council.
