Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, September 15, 2008
Page 25
personnel-related costs driving discussions and considerations for overall core
services and programs.
Councilmember Pust requested that staff provide a chart isolating proposed
wage/benefit increases for fire and police personnel.
Roe moved, Klausing seconded, adoption of Resolution No. 10654 entitled,
"Resolution Submitting the Preliminary Property Tax Levy Real Estate to the
Ramsey County Auditor for the Fiscal year of 2009;" in the total amount of
$14,095,580.
Councilmember Ihlan spoke in opposition to the proposed Levy and Budget;
opining that further reductions were needed. Councilmember Ihlan advised that
she was at a loss as to how to approach any reductions; but opined that it was im-
portant to at least consider it; and noted her openness to other City Councilmem-
ber suggestions.
Roll Call
Ayes: Roe; Willmus; Pust; and Klausing.
Nays: Ihlan.
Motion carried.
Roe moved, Klausing seconded, adoption of Resolution No.10655 entitled,
"Resolution Adopting the Preliminary 2009 Annual Budget for the City of Rose-
ville;" in the amount of $37,832,995.
Mayor Klausing encouraged and reiterated his often-stated charge to Council-
members in observing areas that could be reduced, or spending reductions in non-
priority items, that they bring those items forward to staff and the entire body at
their earliest convenience to ensure adequate time for research, discussion and
impact ramifications city-wide, and to allow for policy level discussions as appro-
priate.
Councilmember Roe spoke in support of the motion; opining that he was willing
to look at appropriate reductions and anything that would provide benefit to the
public in reduced taxes; however, observed that he was not under any illusions
that there was much room in which to work.
Councilmember Pust noted that, by making this motion, the City Council was act-
ing as required; indicating that the budget would never exceed this; however,
opined that now was the time for the City Council to pare it down to the greatest
extent possible.
Roll Call
Ayes: Roe; Willmus; Pust; and Klausing.
Nays: Ihlan.
Motion carried.
