Regular City Council Meeting <br />Monday, October 27, 2008 <br />Page 3 <br />At the request of Mayor Klausing, City Manager Malinen reported on the first completed <br />class of this community outreach program to educate and inform citizens of local gov- <br />ernment and services. Mr. Malinen noted the involvement of seven City departments, <br />along with City Councilmembers; and feedback to-date from participants. Mr. Malinen <br />personally thanked Department Heads and their immediate staff for their extra commit- <br />ment and attendance on those Thursday nights, for teaching the classes, and providing in- <br />formation to participants. <br />Mayor Klausing thanked staff and participants; providing his personal favorable impres- <br />sions of the program based on his attendance at the commencement ceremony. <br />Councilmember Roe suggested that those participants be recognized formally by the City <br />Council. <br />a. Recognize Fire Explorers <br />Deputy Chief Greg Peterson reviewed the purpose of the Roseville Fire Explore <br />Post #547 program and it's creation in 2000, allowing students between the ages <br />of 14 - 21 the opportunity to learn firefighter and emergency medical skills. Dep- <br />uty Chief Peterson recognized participants Noah Ciernia, Ryan Buelow, Tom <br />Borden, Alex Breiland, Tim Picha, Nick Strauss, and Mitch Goggins for their <br />achievements this year at the Fire Explorer Challenge at the Governor's Fire Pre- <br />vention Day, taking first place in the event among thirteen other competing teams. <br />Mayor Klausing further recognized post advisors Deputy Chief Greg Peterson, <br />Deputy Chief Bill Chandler, Lieutenants Kristi Sjostrom, Joe Friedrichs, Fire- <br />fighters Bill Buelow, A. J. Neis, and Andy Chandler. <br />b. Proclaim November American Indian Heritage Month <br />Mayor Klausing, on behalf of the City Council, citizens and staff, read a procla- <br />mation recognizing November 2008 as American Indian Heritage Month. <br />Pust moved, Ihlan seconded, proclaiming November 2008 at American Indian <br />Heritage Month in Roseville, and urging all citizens to join in appreciation for the <br />community's rich and diverse heritage. <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Willmus; Roe; Ihlan; Pust; and Klausing. <br />Nays: None. <br />6.
