Regular City Council Meeting Monday, December 15, 2008 Page 14 Councilmember Pust suggested that staff make sure the City's website is updated to provide public information related to this additional source for sale of un- claimed property. John Kysylyczyn, 3083 N Victoria Street Mr. Kysylyczyn expressed concern that, in his substantial online perusal and pur- chasing, he hadn't heard of this particular company, and questioned what impact this would have on taxpayers receiving the highest sale prices by using an un- known online business. Mr. Kysylyczyn suggested that the City use more popular methods; and that the auction process be reviewed on an annual basis with a for- mal report provided by the Police Department to the City Council for their con- sideration and for public information. Police Chief Sletner responded that State Statute and City Code already required publication of those items being contemplated for sale; and that it was forfeited property, not City property, and clarified that staff was simply seeking another op- tion for increased sales opportunities. Gwen Lewiston, Manager at Fuddruckers, not a Roseville Resident Ms. Lewiston spoke in support of the Chief's proposal; noting that she had seen a recent expose by a major television station on ProeprtyRoom.com; and opined that it appeared to be a good company. Mayor Klausing closed the Public Hearing at 7:47 p.m. Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of amending the ordinance, as long as the City was attempting to maximize proceeds that generated revenue for the General Fund. 12. Business Items (Action Items) a. Consider Ordinance allowing Electronic Auctions for Disposal of Unclaimed Property Klausing moved, Roe seconded, enactment of Ordinance No. 1380 entitled, "An Ordinance Amending Title V, Section 508.01, Disposal of Unclaimed Property to Include Electronic Online Auction;" for disposal purposes. Councilmember Roe requested that staff provide, after a period of time with this provider, an informal feedback to the City Council as to whether desired out- comes had been achieved. Councilmember Roe expressed his confidence that staff would continue to look at any areas where cost savings or additional reve- nues could be maximized.
