Regular City Council Meeting 8s Executive 3easion <br />Monday, March 23, 2009 <br />Page 9 <br />Councilmember Ihlan noted that one incumbent applicant was seeking <br />reappointment; and referenced the City Council's policy for reappointment <br />separately from appointment; and spoke against the motion for that reason. <br />Councilmember Roe suggested that action be taken on the reappointment before <br />making further appointments. <br />Councilmember Pust opined that she was not moving reappointment of the <br />incumbent, based on being consistent with the recommendations of the Chair in <br />his a-mail. <br />Pust and Johnson withdrew their motion to appoint the slate to the Human Rights <br />Commission, as recommended by the commission chair, and Pust moved, <br />Johnson seconded, not reappointing the incumbent to the Human Rights <br />Commission. <br />Recess <br />Mayor Klausing recessed the meeting at approximately 7:28 p.m. for review of the <br />reappointment/appointment policy; and reconvened at approximately 7:43 p.m. <br />Pust and Johnson withdrew their motion to not reappoint the incumbent to the . <br />Human Rights Commission. <br />Johnson moved, Klausing seconded, reappointment of Gale Pederson to the Parks <br />and Recreation Commission. <br />Councilmember Ihlan opined that Ms. Pederson had exceeded her term limit by <br />one additional year. <br />Councilmember Johnson clarified that Ms. Pederson had quit during her first term <br />to run for the City Council; and that upon her reappointment, she had begun a <br />second series of eligibility for a six year term. <br />Mayor Klausing advised that this information had been screened and clarified by <br />staff prior to the application process being initiated; with eligibility determined at <br />that time. <br />Mayor Klausing suggested that the policy could be revisited in the future if the <br />Council was inclined to do so; however, he opined that it was not relevant to <br />appointment or reappointment at this time. <br />Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of the motion. <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Pust; Ihlan; Johnson; Roe; and Klausing. <br />Nays: None. <br />
