o Create an ordinance that will require the establishment of turf or other
acceptable plantings in residentially zoned yards. Currently, the City does not
require turf establishment for residentially zoned areas.
o Modify the ordinance to restrict the parking of vehicles in the front yard from
10 days to 1 day.
o Amend the ordinance regarding the storage of RVs and trailers in residential
areas.
/ Northeast Diagonal Corridor Planning -Planning staff, along with the City of
Vadnais Heights staff, is in the process of creating a coalition of communities along
the Northeast Diagonal Corridor to advocate for the planning and development of the
potential transit corridor. While the planning has just started, staff anticipates
interaction with the Planning Commission on the matter as the coalition starts putting
together a work plan and possibly looks to undertake master planning along the
corridor.
/ Rice Street Corridor -Planning staff has initiated conversations with the cities of
Little Canada and Maplewood and Ramsey County about the future of the Rice Street
Corridor. While it is uncertain what will come from these discussions, staff is hopeful
that a uniform design code and master planning will result from this work. Like the
Northeast Diagonal Corridor planning effort, staff anticipates interaction with the
Planning Commission as the effort moves ahead.
/ Snelling Ave. Transit Corridor -The 2030 Comprehensive Plan identifies Snelling
Ave. as a future transit corridor. The Planning Commission will coordinate with staff
and MnDOT on potential studies of the corridor. Staff will keep the Planning
Commission informed and bring items forward for its deliberation as needed.
/ Bike/Pedestrian Issues -The Planning Commission has indicated a strong desire to
advocate for creating more bike and pedestrian opportunities throughout the City and
in (re)development projects. In addition, there is a need to improve the safety of
existing bike and pedestrian accesses. The Planning Commission will work with
Planning and Public Works staff in identifying new corridors and needed
improvements for existing corridor. The Planning Commission will also participate in
any bike/pedestrian studies that would be undertaken in 2009.
/ Complete Streets -The Planning Commission has expressed a desire to learn more
about "Complete Streets". Staff will arrange for a presentation on "Complete Streets"
at a regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting.
/ Roseville Parks Master Plan -The Planning Commission will be engaged in the
Parks Master Planning process to be undertaken in 2009. Involvement may include
review portions of the plan, participating in open houses, and the serving on
committees reviewing and creating the plan.
