city or Agenda Item 1 <br />t~~ <br />~' Minnesota, USA <br />1 Human Rights Commission <br />2 DRAFT -Meeting Minutes -DRAFT <br />4 May 12, 2009 <br />5 Call to Order: Vice Chair Marie Oftelie called the meeting of the Roseville <br />6 Human Rights Commission (HRC) to order at 7:07 p.m. Chair <br />7 David Singleton arrived shortly thereafter and chaired the meeting. <br />8 Commissioner Peg Kennedy arrived at approximately 7:30 p.m. <br />9 <br />10 Commissioners Present: Chair David Singleton; Commissioners Gary Grefenberg, Liz <br />11 Jaeger, Peg Kennedy, Marie Oftelie and Barbara Yates <br />12 <br />13 Commissioners Absent: Commissioner Thelma McKenzie <br />14 <br />15 Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen, Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell <br />16 and Robert Martin <br />17 <br />18 Approve Minutes of April 14, 2009 <br />19 Member Grefenberg provided several corrections with minor typographical corrections provided <br />20 to staff for processing. <br />21 <br />22 Member Yates moved, seconded by Member Grefenberg, to amend the minutes as follows: <br />~3 Page 2, lines 19 - 22, Correct to read: <br />24 "Discussion included involving a diverse group of high school students; benefits of a <br />25 longer and more aggressive planning process; perceived role of men and women in the <br />26 proposed subjects for future dialogue; future partnerships, including plans with the <br />27 League of Women Voters; and [broadening community) involvement a€[beyondJ <br />28 professional "do-gooders" <br />29 Motion carried: All ayes - 4/0. <br />30 <br />31 Member Grefenberg moved, seconded by Member Oftelie, to amend the minutes as follows: <br />32 Page 3, Lines 22 - 24, Correct to read: <br />33 "Commissioner Grefenberg spoke in support of broadening and expanding the role of the <br />34 HRC; however, he concurred with Commissioner McKenzie that the original role and <br />35 intent of the HRC [should) remain te-be a watchdog for human rights issues and <br />36 situations." <br />37 Motion carried: All ayes - 4/0. <br />38 <br />39 Member Grefenberg moved, seconded by member Yates, to amend the minutes as follows: <br />40 Page 4, Line 22 - 24, Correct to read: <br />41 "Commissioner Grefenberg opined his passionate disagreement with the first three <br />42 sentences in Section F, based on his concerns that "demographics" was perceived as <br />43 isolated to the U. S. Census, [which now planned to exclude) ~~a *'~°~r °°°'•~~~°~ °~ <br />44 domestic partners [questions) in the 2010 census data. Commissioner Grefenberg <br />~5 distributed..." <br />
