Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes -May 12, 2009 <br />Page 4 of 4 <br />• 1 Final discussion on attendance/access to a convertible and other logistics for the HRC's <br />2 participation in the Rosefest parade. <br />4 Member Kennedy noted the limits and complexity of her schedule until after July 1, 2009. <br />5 <br />6 City Manager Malinen noted that Roseville HRC essay contest winner, Megan Brady, Parkview <br />7 Center School, was awarded second in the State Human Rights essay competition and would be <br />8 recognized on May 16. <br />9 <br />10 Discussion included the State League of Human Rights and other meetings on a state-wide level <br />11 for participation by members; potential scholarships for attendance provided by the Bremer <br />12 Foundation for commissioners; and information and resources available to the HRC compiled at <br />13 City Hall specific to human rights issues.. <br />14 <br />15 Announcements <br />16 City Manager Malinen noted that he and/or Carolyn Curti would attend future HRC meetings to <br />17 provide staff support; and advised that staff had submitted the Bremer Grant application. <br />18 <br />19 Member Kennedy invited members, as an example of the diversity of Roseville, to a "Taste of <br />20 Roseville," potluck picnic featuring cultural foods on May 27, 2009 at the Dale Street West <br />21 Shelter at Central Park from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and sponsored by >/nglish Language Learners <br />22 (ELL) and open to the public. Ms. Kennedy suggested that this was something the HRC could <br />~3 support as citizens without formal sponsorship. <br />24 <br />25 City Manager Malinen encouraged members to alert staff to such events that would allow Mayor <br />26 Klausing to recognize and announce the events at upcoming City Council meetings. <br />27 <br />28 Member Kennedy said she late because she was attending a ne~v organization of the Karin <br />29 Community of MN for Burmese refugees. Ms. Kennedy noted that this was a significant group <br />30 within Roseville; and that they were preparing a Request for Proposals for social services <br />31 specific to this group. Ms. Kennedy asked HRC members to consider potential HRC actions, <br />32 such as letters welcoming this culture to the community. <br />33 <br />34 Adjournment <br />35 Chair Singleton adjourned the meeting at approximately 7:55 p.tn. <br />• <br />
