Item III <br />• Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Activities that the commission has undertaken in 2008-2009 <br />• Community forum in partnership with the Twin Cities United Way -approximately 100 <br />participants representing a wide range of ages, nationalities and interests. The forum <br />brought many new faces to the city, engaging them in an inclusive community <br />conversation. <br />• Helped expand the Human Rights Commission charge to work to increase the sense of <br />community by reaching out to all members of the community and ensuring that our city <br />are accessible, understandable and responsive to all. <br />• Coordinated the annual 6-8 grade Essay Contest. More than 240 students participated, <br />and Roseville's first place winner placed second in the statewide competition. <br />• Applied for and received a Bremer Foundation Capacity Building grant through the <br />Minnesota Department of Human Rights. The Commission will receive training in <br />running effective meetings and goal setting. <br />• The Commission reviewed serious issues (housing policies, civilian review board) <br />whether action/policy changes were needed. <br />• <br />• <br />
