The program was intended to make grants directly to fire departments
of a State for the purpose of enhancing the department's ability to protectthe health and safety of the public as
well as that of firefighting personnel facing fire and rescue-related hazards.
Polic,plications:
This grant would help the fire department solve a problem with the current self-contained breathing apparatus
(SCBA) worn by Roseville firefighters. These units are not certified to be compliant for chemical, biological,
radiological or nuclear exposure. The grant would allow the fire department to replace all SCBA with units that
are CBRN compliant.
Financial:
The federal grant has a 10% matching requirement for communities with populations under 50,000. Our grant
application for the self-contained breathing apparatus was $283,085. The award amount was $254,777 with a
required match of $28,308 from the City. The City's match will be paid from fire department's equipment
capital budget.
Staff ReconaGnendatioz:
Staff recommends the acceptance of the bid from Metro Fire for purchase of MSA brand self-contained
breathing apparatus. Equipment would be delivered by year-end and placed into service first quarter 2008.
Council Action Requested: Motion to accept the bid from Metro Fire for the purchase of MSA brand self-
contained breathing apparatus Assistance to Firefighters Grant award in the amount of $283,085.
