Councilmember Roe noted that he had heard comments from some appli- cants regarding anonymity in the selection process; and didn't have a prefer- ence for identifying candidates with specific Councilmembers, or simply providing preferences by consensus. Councilmember Roe expressed interest in hearing CouncilmemberPust's opinion of the process at a future meeting. Councilmember Kough expressed no preference. Mayor Klausing expressed no preference; but noted that he had been pleas- antly surprised by the consensus achieved in the current practice of each Councilmember choosing two candidates for each vacancy. Mayor I�lausing noted that some individual Council concern had been expressed regarding whether to include input from Advisory Commission Chairs; and suggested that Councilmembers submit their candidates with or without including Chairperson preferences; and that staff disseminate that data accordingly. Councilmember Roe suggested that staff provide the Chairperson recom- mendations to Councilmembers, but not factor them into the count. �� Further discussion included encouraging as many people to be involved in 24 serving as possible; and the need to invite opinions of Chairpersons, while �5 not ceding Council votes to them. ��} �� Consensus was that before future appointments are made, discussion be held �� to achieve a consensus on the process for appointments, when the entire City �� Council is available. �� �� �� �3 �� �5 3� 3� 3€� �� 10. Discussion of Non-Motorized Transportation Pi�ot Program Grant Op- portunity Public Works Director Duane Schwartz presented detailed information on an upcoming grant opportunity for a non-motorized transportation pilot pro- gram, as part of the federal transportation bill (SAFETEA-LU), including four cities across the country, including Minneapolis. Mr. Schwartz noted that the application process encouraged cooperation with other jurisdictions, and allowing connections with cities that directly abut Minneapolis, includ- ing Roseville; and didn't necessarily require a local match of funds.
