Volunteerism • To provide many of the personnel needs for the improvement and enhancement of leisure programs for the present and the next century by citizens of the community who will serve as volunteers. Establish a commission to advise the City Council on projects where expertise of the citizens can be used. ■ There have been several volunteer task forces, i.e. Pathway, Community Center, Arboretum Committee, Roseville Skating Center Advisory Committee, Skate Park Committee, Tree Task Force, Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission, etc. ■ RSC OVAL Task Force, etc. ■ Roseville Parks and Recreation Commission is taking a larger role in this effort Establish a volunteer coordinator function to serve as a clearinghouse for matching volunteer skills with needs. ■ One staff person, along with many other duties, has been assigned this task. ■ Create incentives and provide recognition for volunteering. ■ Annual volunteer appreciation/recognition Dinner • T-shirts for special events • Thank you cards developed ■ Other tokens of appreciation implemented. • Advertised and promoted volunteer opportunities in all departments with the clearinghouse set as the Administration Department Provide appropriate support services to Roseville volunteers and programs. ■ Have developed a storage system for volunteer organizations materials • Allow and coordinate meeting space to be used by volunteers ■ Provide extensive administrative support to all volunteer groups and organizations. Encourage youth service through such programs as a Summer Teen Park Work Program, resulting in needed services for the community and employment opportunities for youth. • Created a junior leader program Youth Commission representative Created a scout volunteer program Pathways —provide trails and facilities map. To develop and implement a comprehensive trail system plan allowing residents to enjoy recreational, civic, cultural, and leisure activities throughout Roseville. This plan would provide for non-motorized pathways of all types that do more than merely connect areas. In this sense, they can be regarded as an extension of the park system. o Develop and maintain a comprehensive pathway system that will allow residents and visitors to be able to move between and among all Roseville parks, including those owned by Ramsey County, entirely on non-motorized pedestrian and bike pathways. ■ Have developed a pathway system that works within itself, i.e. a system within each park and an off road system to get to most all parks. PROVIDE TRAIL AND FACIILITES MAP! o Construct and maintain trails that will enable residents and visitors to move between the trail system connecting the City and County parks. ■ Provide Parks and Facilities Map. o Develop a sidewalk system connecting the park trails with major civic buildings, recreational and cultural facilities and shopping areas.
